MRI Physics Certification

Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics

In 2007, the American Board of Medical Physics announced a new examination pathway for MRI Scientists. This Part 1 multiple choice examination does not require an intimate understanding of radiation therapy physics or x-ray imaging physics. Instead, the examination is more focused on the candidate’s basic knowledge in areas more relevant to clinical MRI including electronics, chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics. Candidates seeking certification in MRI physics who have come through a traditional medical physics program will still be allowed to use completion of the traditional ABMP Part 1 (General Medical Physics) examination or the Part One examination administered by the American College of Radiology as part of the certification process.
